“My son has been working with Megan for 15 months, and she has been such a positive influence on him. He adored her from the minute they first met. She has a huge amount of enthusiasm for her work, which in turn made him excited to do it. She took the time to get to know him and to build their lessons and activities around his interests. “We are very happy we found Megan to tutor our six year old son. Although he has seemed relatively average in terms of his reading skills, we struggled with getting him to do any reading with us at home, which proved to be an issue during the pandemic. We were looking for someone to provide regular teaching for him so he didn't fall behind. Our experience so far has definitely exceeded our expectations, as he is obsessed with Megan's classes, they are one of the highlights of his week (right up there with weekend ice cream)! She really brings out an enthusiasm for reading that we did not know he had. I think this is because she herself is very enthusiastic and tailors her play based approach to his interests. He basically thinks that "Megan's class" is an opportunity to play with a fun adult. We have seen a lot of progress in his reading, and he is starting to share more of his skills with us. “To say Megan is an outstanding reading tutor is an understatement. She tutored our kids (ages 5 & 7) the past summer, virtually. During this time we experimented with many different tutors/instructors and she was the only tutor that was able to capture and hold the attention of our kids throughout the entire session - something we didn't think was possible to do virtually with this age group. She put tremendous thought in crafting individualized sessions so that it met the unique interests of each child along with ensuring lessons were taught at their skill level. Because of this, the kids always had a ton of fun learning and continually asking for more sessions. Most importantly, we've seen great improvement in our kids' literary abilities and each has developed confidence and a desire to try and read/write things on their own. “I am so happy that we got Megan as a virtual tutor for my six year old son over the summer. I was concerned that my son was behind in his reading and math skills, and when COVID arrived I was even more worried and stressed about it. A teacher at his school told me about Megan and after learning her approach we decided to give it a try. I was not sure if it was going to work for us, as my son is very active, energetic and it is very difficult to get his attention for a prolonged time and even more challenging through a virtual set up. However, from the first class I realized that it was going to be perfect for him. Megan’s approach is very engaging, and my son was always looking forward to his class. “My 7 year old son really struggled with and did not have much interest in reading before he started working with Megan virtually this past summer. Megan had the most creative ways of keeping our energetic little guy focused on the reading activities and skills while incorporating his favourite toys. “After the world paused in March 2020 due to COVID-19, we were faced with many challenges; not the least of which was our kids' schooling. As was the case with most parents, we struggled to find the time, patience, and energy to develop any semblance of an at-home education plan. Doubts creep in: Were we covering everything we needed to? Should we pay for costly online courses that may not be worth it? Were we building up our kids' confidence or making them feel less empowered in their learning? We aren't professional educators, so our fears and doubts came from a place of confusion, uncertainty, and a feeling of being way out of our element. We heard of several online resources that offered courses, but with our kids' special educational needs, we were doubtful they would reach the kids in any meaningful way. We thought they'd be too distracted trying to learn anything in such a disconnected and absolutely foreign methodology. We heard of Megan McGuire Learning through a resource teacher at the kids' school. After speaking with Megan for the first time, we quickly realized that her methods and approach to learning were quite unique compared to other options we researched. We decided to have our youngest boy start classes with Megan over the summer, as his educational needs presented the greatest challenge. From the first class, it was clear that Megan has a genuine love for teaching and is truly dedicated to engaging her students in fun learning activities. Play-based, energetic exercises and games made the sessions fun for our son, who never once complained about having to sit down for a class with "Miss Megan". It became a highlight of his, and our, day. After 23 sessions with Megan, our son is more confident in his fundamental math and reading skills. His focus with other online learning platforms has also improved, thanks in no small part to Megan's fun approach to learning. We can't recommend Megan McGuire Learning enough. We have already enrolled our son in Megan's online classes this fall to continue their learning journey together. “
